Tincture of Iodine

Tincture of iodine effectively destroys virus and fungus on contact. Ninety percent of bacteria is killed on the skin within ninety seconds.

Iodine tincture remains the best antiseptic for prevention of wound infections after surgery.

The medical world has chosen to ignore this exceptional natural healing agent. In my humble opinion, it appears there is no money in it for "pharma" because it can not be patented.

Even though iodine is recognized by some individuals as an extremely effective treatment for thyroid protection, it has a much broader scope of healing abilities.

According to Dr. Brownstein, author of numerous books focusing on thyroid, endocrine and iodine deficiencies, he states:

"All of the glands of the body depend on adequate iodine levels to function optimally. Animal studies have shown problems with the adrenal glands, the thymus gland, the ovaries, the hypothalamus and pituitary access, as well as the entire endocrine system, when there is an iodine deficient state."

Historical Use of Ticture of Iodine

I found an interesting story about transdermal treatment with iodine documented from the Civil War.

An officer was severely wounded in his calf, thigh, arm and face during battle. His full recovery was credited to his faithful wife who painted his wounds continually throughout the day.

He survived to become the Governor of Georgia, a General and Commander-in-Chief of the United Confederate Veterans.

Summary of Tincuture of Iodine Properties

Skin is the most acceptable transport for iodine with 88% of it evaporating from the skin requiring frequent coating.

Colloidal iodine has been found to evaporate more quickly than tincture of iodine with Lugol's being the most stable.

After evaporation from the skin, 12% is available to the body immediately with the remaining percentage being gradually absorbed.

The properties of the tincture consists of 2-7% potassium iodide or sodium iodide, and elemental iodine, dissolved in a mixture of ethanol and water. This may be toxic if ingested in a large amount. The bottle is clearly marked for external use only.

You will find the tincture in survival kits where it can be used for wounds and to sanitize drinking water.

Factoid

According to law, compounds made with ethyl alcohol are required to display the skull and crossbones on the label.

Iodide(s) mixed with potash, water, creams, ointments, etc., don't display the skull and cross bones.
