Lugol's 2% Dosage?

by Alicia
(Florida)

I just purchased a few bottles of Lugol's 2% and I was wondering how many vertical drops do I have to use to equal 12.5 mg/day?

Also: is fatique a common side effect when starting supplementation of iodine? How should iodine be taken? (on an empty stomach or after eating?)

Thank You.

RESPONSE

You will need to take 2-3 drops of the 2% iodine in order to obtain 12.5 mg.

Dr. Brownstein recommends to start slowly and increase up to 50 mg. I take 4 Iodoral tablets a day instead of the liquid supplementation.

I suggest taking the iodine on an empty stomach for maximum absorption.

When you experience fatigue after starting iodine supplementation, it has a detoxing affect from the iodine. Your body is clearing out stored toxins such as Halogens and Potassium Bromate.

Lugols Dosage
by: Anonymous

Dave, can you please tell me where you got the dosage numbers. They are very hard to varify.
I always thought it was a dropper full. So My 4 and 6 year old have been getting I guess 37.5mg for about a year now. I think I'll at least cut that in half... to save money if nothing else. Thanks for the info.

RESPONSE

Please see this page which shows the dosage for adult dosage:
Lugols Dosage - It's 5 drops, not 2 or 3.
by: Dave Hirschman

It requires 5 drops of 2% iodine to equal 12.5mg of iodine.

Two drops would be needed for 5% iodine, which may no longer be sold due to FDA regulations.

RESPONSE

Dave, thank you so much for pointing that out.
